Nikki:
What up, everybody? I’m your girl, Nikki, here with the one and only Miles-

Miles Minnick:
Miles Minnick. What’s going on, y’all?

Nikki:
That’s right. So I’ve listened to your story. You were 16.

Miles Minnick:
Yes.

Nikki:
You were smoking.

Miles Minnick:
Yes.

Nikki:
Smelling like that gas.

Miles Minnick:
Mm-hmm.

Nikki:
And your homeboy, Dante said, “Let’s go to church.”

Miles Minnick:
Not you knowing the name. That’s crazy.

Nikki:
I do this.

Miles Minnick:
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Nikki:
So he says, “Go to church.” You go to church trying to meet some girls, first of all, it was for the youth group.

Miles Minnick:
That is correct. That is correct.

Nikki:
And so you walk into this church and the spirit of God just hits you.

Miles Minnick:
Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah.

Nikki:
And so we have so many people that listen to Boost and they’re struggling with alcohol addiction, smoking. What would you say to those people as a boost of hope for them-

Miles Minnick:
Wow. Wow.

Nikki:
As they’re going through, they may be in their room right now with the joint up to their lips, the bottle about to turn up, what would you say to those people listening and watching right now?

Miles Minnick:
I would say God is able to deliver you from anything that you’re willing to hand over to him. That night when I was 16, I walked into that church with one high and left with a new one. I wasn’t church trained. I wasn’t a church kid. I had no interest in being in church. But regardless of my interest, I felt the power of God that night. And literally, it’s like he took away the appetite for it. I tried to be a part of the same circles, but I would no longer fit. I tried to start smoking again, but the taste for it left me. You know what I mean? So I think that could speak to where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And so I would say the closer you get to God, the closer you will get to freedom. And that’s true for me. I’m not trying to be super spiritual, super cliche. I was fresh off the street and experienced freedom. You can’t make that up. So hopefully that could boost somebody up today.

Nikki:
Boost it up.

Miles Minnick:
Yeah.

Nikki:
So the next segment I want to do with you is called A Minute With Minnick. And these are fire questions that you fans wanted to know, so we’re about to find them out now.

Miles Minnick:
Let’s get it.

Nikki:
First question is, when is your birthday?

Miles Minnick:
September 30th.

Nikki:
Nice. I’m September 2nd.

Miles Minnick:
Okay. Okay. Yeah, yeah.

Nikki:
How long have you been married?

Miles Minnick:
I’ve been married for nine years.

Nikki:
Wow. Okay. How many kids?

Miles Minnick:
Girl, I have not one, not two, not three. All of them things. I got four kids. Shout to Alani, Riley, Jaden and Nehemiah. Love y’all for real. I’ll see y’all soon.

Nikki:
Nice. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Miles Minnick:
Wifey will tell you I am a night person. There’s not a morning bone in me. I would like to change that, but I be up til three in the morning, four in the morning, eating hostess cupcakes, and then not being able to wake up in time for important things sometimes, but we working on it.

Nikki:
What is one food that you could eat every day?

Miles Minnick:
I could eat birria, birria tacos every single day of my life with guacamole on the side with some good chips. Oh, I’m a California boy and we love some Mexican food. Let me… Woo. I felt that.

Nikki:
Woo.

Miles Minnick:
I felt that right there. Yeah.

Nikki:
What is the last movie you saw?

Miles Minnick:
Okay. The last movie I seen was Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Nikki:
Okay. Okay.

Miles Minnick:
Yeah. That’s one of my favorite franchises. I love the Ape movies. I love them.

Nikki:
Nice, nice. Okay.

Miles Minnick:
Yeah.

Nikki:
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Miles Minnick:
Teleportation.

Nikki:
Really?

Miles Minnick:
I would never be late.

Nikki:
Because you’re not a morning person.

Miles Minnick:
Yeah. I would never be late. And traffic in California is ridiculous.

Nikki:
Oh, I know.

Miles Minnick:
So it’s like, “All right y’all, I’ll see you at the house.” [inaudible 00:03:48].

Nikki:
All right. If you could collab with anyone, regardless of the genre of music, who would it be?

Miles Minnick:
Ooh.

Nikki:
Anyone.

Miles Minnick:
That’s a really good question. Okay. Okay. I want to collab with, I’ll give you a few of them. Okay?

Nikki:
Okay.

Miles Minnick:
I want to collab with Chandler Moore. I want to collab with Maroon five. I want to collab with Owl City. The fireflies in your eyes [inaudible 00:04:17] I fell asleep. I’m telling you. I’m telling you. Okay, one more. One more. One time for the culture. E-40 sometimes be doing Christian music. So E-40. Ooh, tell me when to go.

Nikki:
I could really hear you and E-40 on something.

Miles Minnick:
Oh yeah. Yeah.

Nikki:
Yeah. That would be fire. I love that.

Miles Minnick:
It’s written in stone. It’s written in stone. It’s going to happen, for sure.

Nikki:
Next question. What’s a fun fact about you that people don’t know?

Miles Minnick:
A fun fact about me that people don’t know.

Nikki:
Yeah, but they’re going to know after you tell us.

Miles Minnick:
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. My friends make fun of me all the time because of my eating habits. They’re like, “Oh, Miles don’t want to go eat sushi. All he eat is Dino Nuggets. Or, “All he want is a cheeseburger. All he eat is chicken and burgers. Chicken and burgers. Chicken and burgers,” and birria. But, “Chicken and burgers.” They say I eat like a kid. And it’s kind of true. You know what I’m saying? But I don’t know. So I’m trying. Listen, it’s been a stronghold on me. I’ve been stuck in my ways for a long time. But on this tour, I’ve been determined to expand my palate. Oh, I tried some sushi. And not just a California roll. It was a dragon roll type beat. It was incredible. And then I had some lemon lime hot Cheetos. Because here’s the thing too. Not only do I just eat Dino Nuggets. I only eat original stuff. Original Lays. Original Doritos. Original Oreos. So I’m trying to like, you know what I’m saying? God has so much more to offer. That’s a word for somebody. Let them expand your horizon.

Nikki:
Expand you. Yes. What is a favorite scripture that you carry with you?

Miles Minnick:
Oh my goodness. Proverbs three five. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding and acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will direct your path. And my path has been directed because I’ve acknowledged him in all of my ways, and I have leaned not on my own understanding. Because my understanding can mislead me. You got to lean into the one that has a higher vantage point and it’ll show you which way to go.

Nikki:
Amen.

Miles Minnick:
For real.

Nikki:
Amen to that. How have you been Christ-like today?

Miles Minnick:
Today? Ah, really good question. You know we in Portland, right? You know we in Portland, Oregon, right? You know this is the shoe capital of the world, right? Why? Because the Nike world campus is here. And through Sam Rivera and the favor of God, we got access to the employee store where everything was 40% off. And only five of us could go and there’s eight of us. And so I was like, “You know what? I got to buy everybody an item who didn’t come with us today.” And so, yeah, I was happy about that.

Nikki:
That’s what’s up.

Miles Minnick:
Yeah.

Nikki:
I love that. Next question, name of the new album.

Miles Minnick:
The name of the new album is Christlike, California.

Nikki:
And what is your favorite song off the album?

Miles Minnick:
My favorite song off the album besides Boost It Up, besides Boost It Up, right now, it would have to be More Than Sunday.
And how could God top that? Holy, going after everything he showed me. He running me down just like the police. What I need from you was more than Sunday, can be.

Nikki:
So you guys have heard the song. Why would I act like I’m not blessed? Okay?

Miles Minnick:
Why? Why would you?

Nikki:
Why would I act like I’m not blessed?

Miles Minnick:
Yeah.
Why would I stress? Why would I act like I’m not blessed? Now why would I? Why would stress? Why would I act like I’m not blessed [inaudible 00:07:48]. Boost it up. Boost it up. Boost it up.

Nikki:
Yeah. Hell yeah.
Boost it up.

Miles Minnick:
Boost that thing up, girl. Come on, Nikki.

Nikki:
So when you made the song, Boost It Up, let everybody know that BOOST Radio was top of the mind-

Miles Minnick:
Absolutely.

Nikki:
When you made it.

Miles Minnick:
Okay. So here’s the true story, right?

Nikki:
Okay.

Miles Minnick:
I’m in my apartment at Long Beach. I have my engineer on FaceTime. He’s teaching me how to set up my studio. I’m setting up the new audio interface. I got the computer, I got the headphones and everything, and I’m trying to speak into the mic, and I’m like, “Yo, Darus. I can’t hear myself.” He’s like, “Huh?” I said, “I can’t hear myself when I record.” He was like, “Bro, just boost it up.”

Nikki:
Oh.

Miles Minnick:
“Just boost it up.” And then I was like, “Boost it up.” He’s still on FaceTime too. “Boost it up, boost it up. Why would I stress? Why would I act like I’m not blessed?” Literally, I free-styled the hook. One take and it was done. It was over. I didn’t write it. I didn’t think of it prior. He said, “Boost it up.” I pressed record. I’m like, “We boosting it up.” Then I was like, “BOOST Radio.” I knew this would be perfect for a BOOST. It was just a God thing, for real.

Nikki:
That’s what’s up.

Miles Minnick:
Yeah.

Nikki:
I love it. And BOOST Nation loves Boost It Up. It is one of the top songs on BOOST Radio. Literally every time we play it, we’re like, “Yo, Miles Minnick made this especially for BOOST Nation.”

Miles Minnick:
Yeah. Yeah.

Nikki:
“So we need y’all to turn it up-“

Miles Minnick:
Come on. BOOST.

Nikki:
“And boost it up.” Boost it up, boost it up, boost it up, boost it up.
